About our namesake: Lee A. Archer, Jr.

Lee Andrew Archer Jr. [] fought in WWII as one of the first African American men to serve in the US Air Force, ultimately earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (above the rank of Major.) He&#;s our namesake for this chapter.

Part of the nd Fighter Group (aka.

the &#;Tuskegee Airmen&#;), Archer flew combat missions, and is credited with 5 enemy aircraft shot down, making him the first and currently only black U.S. pilot to earn an &#;ace&#; designation by the Air Force. Most pilots were only flying 50 missions at that time, a third of what Archer had. He flew fighters and bombers over Germany during the war, and later flew missions in Korea.

He earned a Distinguished Flying Cross for his performance, along with special citations from President Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson.

Later in private life, he went on to become one of the first black corporate vice presidents of a major U.S.

company (General Foods), along with several other side ventures promoting African American culture and enterprise.

This corporation is a non-profit benefit corporation and is not organized for he private gain of any person. It is organized under the Non-profit Benefit Corporation Law for public charitable purposes.

Archer, Jr. Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., is to support the objectives of The Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated and to perpetuate the activities and achievements of those Americans who shared in the aspiration and frustrations of pioneering men and women in the Tuskegee experience, United States Army Air Corps and the United States Air Force.

  1.  Bringing together in a spirit of friendship and goodwill all persons of the military and civilian communities at or near Travis Air Force Base, California who desire to learn of the aspirations, frustrations and success of pioneering men and women in military aviation.
  2. Conducting historical research and documentation of the achievements of those Tuskegee Airmen who served our country.
  3. Mentoring our youth to outstanding achievement and leadership in our democratic society through social and educational activities, and by,
  4. Addressing matters of social concern and engaging in activities in furtherance of organizational and TAI National objectives.

We participate in the Young Eagles program at the Nut Tree Airport, Vacaville, CA.

on every third Saturday from March to November and provide scholarships to local students. In addition, we present the Legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen through public events, exhibitions and speakers. 
Our meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 3 PM &#; PM at the Family Readiness Center on Travis AFB, CA.
